Control Units
Almost every vehicle you see on the roads today will contain at least one on-board computer also known as an Control Unit.
Most vehicles have more than one on-board computer fitted on them, each controlling and monitoring there own components and sensors throughout the vehicle. For example some monitor the air bag crash sensors and others, the anti-skid braking system sensors etc.
Diagnosing Faults
To diagnose internal faults on the electrical system technicians need to gain access to on-board diagnostics also known as (OBD) to do this special software is required to see the full fault list and monitor live data. Depending on what software you run will depend on what functions you have. Using the right software is key as you will be able to check different components, seeing live data (that displays values of components) and activating them individually.
